final run for 1200 miles

1200 miles for 2009.  Icy, crusty snowy gravel pit run.  Set a half marathon PR in march of 1:33 at the Run for the Honey Waggon, in Everson.  Set a marathon PR in April of 3:44:21 at the Yakima River Canyon marathon.  Trained for and ran my first Ultra, The North Face Endurance Challenge 50 miler, this was completed in just over 11 hours.  The goals and accomplishments were great, but the I think some of my best memories of this years running has to do with the people I ran with or connected with at working an aid station.  I think working an aid station is a really nice way to see the other side of the sport.  You see the pain and the adrenaline, the excitement and the drama of the entire racing experience.  Plus you get to make new friends with the people you work with.  So I think I would like to include this again in 2010.  I have been training on more trails, and running with other runners.  It’s nice to share a run with someone.  Some are alot faster and some slower, but it always works out in the end.

So I look forward to a new year of new running experiences.  I really want to go for a run with Vicky and Barb, the two ladies who inspired me to start ulta running.  Barb was 75 in March, and they ran and completed a 100 miler in April.  They’re doing another 100 this February.  I’m planning some fun runs with some friends, and running the Wenatchee Marathon with Jason, who got me started on running three years ago.  I’m planning on running the Chuckanut 50k with my good buddies Harvey and Kurt, and training for the 50 miler in June with my new friend Steve.

Oh by the way, I left out many down sides, but I refuse to dwell on them.  I hope not to repeat the same mistakes of 2009, with the understanding that even the most carefully executed running plans can have some problems.

Chucky/Lost Lk. loop

Sweet little 9 miler this morning with Harvey, Kurt, and Steve.  It was beautyful up on the ridge, and Lost Lk. was nice, and the views of the bay were amazing.  What made this run really speacial was seeing Vicky and Barb.   These two ultra runners played a huge part in motivating me to train for my first ultra.  Back in March of this year we worked an aid station together at the Chuckanut 50k.  We had lot’s of time to chat and I was amazed to find out these seasoned ultra runners, one of which was 75 years young, were training for a 100 miler on April 4th.  They both did it with only one, Barb(75), finishing.  Vicky had a bad case of hypernatremia at mile 75 which caused her to drop out.

So I had a chance to talk to my 2 running hero’s today and they gave me a challenge.  Train for a 100 miler.  They are currently training for  a 100 miler in February in Texas.  Go get em girls!!!

Silver Lk. Bike ride

A truly productive and quality Christmas Eve morning.  Spent some quality time with my son Abram, who kicked my butt on Mtn. Bikes riding on roads.  It’s like the tortoise and the hare, but the hare never slows down.  Marry Christmas everyone!!!

Christmas Eve morning

Cold, but perfect conditions for a relaxing time of zoning into my own little quiet spot in the day.  It’s almost like time stands still and the rest of the world get’s put on pause.  Hit the pause button and stand still while you refresh the body and mind.    I have a little twinge in my right ankle that concerns me, but not enough to stop me yet.  My oldest boy wants to head out for a bike ride, so here we go.

core, and Christmas eating goals

Had a some nice core work.  I feel so much more solid the rest of the day if I just get this done.  We are heading off to a family christmas party and I’m feeling like coming out of the season feeling trim and strong.  I had a great run yesterday and had a moderate sized breakfast this morning.  I’m really not craving an abundance of christmas munchees, but I will allow myself some in moderation.  Another goal is to drink more water.  Overall nutrition is good, but I dont want to join the Christmas ponch crowd.  I will overcome!!!!

Went out with Grant this morning.  We did 3 hours on the Chuckanut 50k course.  Great guy to run with.  He really keeps the pace up.  I need more hill time.
